CGCB 607 Laboratory Techniques in Organic Chemistry (2 credits)
|
Course Description :
The course reviews different laboratory techniques essential
for further advanced research in natural products chemistry and organic synthesis. In
addition, chromatographic separation with an emphasis on high-performance liquid
chromatography (HPLC) will be discussed, and hands-on experiences are encouraged. For
organic synthesis, special emphasis will be placed on available techniques in handling
hazardous and sensitive chemicals, as well as in setting up air-sensitive experiments. For
natural products chemistry, techniques involving isolation and structure elucidation will be
discussed prior to laboratory experiences.
