CGCB 601 Heterocyclic Chemistry (3 credits)

Course Description

The importance of heterocycles lies not only on their abundance but also on their chemical and biological significances and number of drugs in clinical use are heterocycles. The topics covered in this course include the structures, reactions, synthesis and applications of structurally diverse heterocyclic compounds including nitrogen, oxygen, and sulfur heterocycles with various ring sizes. Selected examples of natural products, drugs, and biologically active compounds of related structural type will be highlighted. The use of heterocycles in syntheses as well as in synthetic transformations will also be covered.
