Wai Kru Ceremony

On the 13th of September 2018 at 10.00 am., Chulabhorn Graduate Institute arranged the “Wai Kru Ceremony” (Teacher Appreciation Day), a Thai ritual in which students pay respects to their teachers in order to express their gratitude and formalize the student-teacher relationship. Professor Dr. Somsak Ruchirawat, the rector of the institute, including faculty members in the senior administration team, presided over the ceremony. Over 100 students attended this occasion at the auditorium, 2nd floor, Chulabhorn Graduate Institute Building.

During the event, the ceremony was started with speeches from MCs about the background history of the “Wai Kru” ritual, followed by the marvelous performance from the second-year students. The Wai Kru chant was recited, then the senior professors anointed the stack of books and received the decorated pedestal trays from student representatives. Professor Dr. Somsak Ruchirawat, the rector of the institute, had shared his words of wisdoms and blessings on this occasion. All students and staffs gave jasmine garlands to the honorable teachers in front of the stage to express their gratitude and respect. The ceremony was finished with warm-hearted group photos at the end of the event.

The activity is part of the CGI Cultural Project with the aim to preserve Thai culture, and to bolster unity, warmth and togetherness within the institution.
