The 9^th Princess Chulabhorn International Science Congress

In pursuit of an aspiration arising from a recognition of the importance of developing the potential of the science and technology personnel to enable them to catch up with the world’s scholarly advancements, especially in science and technology, so that they can most beneficially apply such advancements to the elevation of the people’s quality of life, Her Royal Highness Princess Chulabhorn Krom Phra Srisavangavadhana, President of Chulabhorn Research Institute, graciously took the initiative in organizing a triannual-quinquennial Princess Chulabhorn International Science Congress since 1997.

In 2024, the President of Chulabhorn Research Institute has graciously decided that the 9^th Princess Chuabhorn International Science Congress be held on the theme “The Challenges of One Health: The Roles of Biosciences and Chemistry” on 15-18 December 2024 at the Shangri-La Hotel, Bangkok. This congress will be held to commemorate the 72nd Birthday Anniversary of His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Phra Vajiraklaochaoyuhua on 28 July 2024. The congress is also aimed to provide an important venue for an international gathering that focuses on the roles biosciences and chemistry in accordance with the World Health Organization (WHO)’s “One Health” concept, which represents a new idea and method of solving health problems. The new approach integrates the healthcare best practices for human beings, animals, and the environment, with a view to achieving holistic health and wellness, as well as their secure co-existence. More than 50 internationally well-known scholars have accepted to participate in the congress, whose main feature will be a special lecture to be delivered by Sir Gregory P. Winter from the United Kingdom, who is a Nobel Prize Laureate in Chemistry for 2018. His lecture topic is “Making New Medicines by Harnessing the Power of Evolution”.

ด้วยพระปณิธานของ ศาสตราจารย์ ดร.สมเด็จพระเจ้าน้องนางเธอ เจ้าฟ้าจุฬาภรณวลัยลักษณ์ อัครราชกุมารี กรมพระศรีสวางควัฒน วรขัตติยราชนารี องค์ประธานสถาบันวิจัยจุฬาภรณ์ ที่ทรงตระหนักถึงความสำคัญในการส่งเสริมและสนับสนุนพัฒนาศักยภาพทรัพยากรบุคคลด้านวิทยาศาสตร์และเทคโนโลยี ให้สอดคล้องกับความก้าวหน้าทางวิทยาการของโลก เพื่อที่จะสามารถนำวิทยาศาสตร์และเทคโนโลยีมาประยุกต์ใช้ให้เกิดประโยชน์สูงสุดในการยกระดับคุณภาพชีวิตประชาชนให้ดียิ่งขึ้น จึงมีพระดำริให้จัด “การประชุมวิทยาศาสตร์นานาชาติ เจ้าฟ้าจุฬาภรณ์ (The Princess Chulabhorn International Science Congress)” ขึ้น ซึ่งเป็นการประชุมวิชาการทางวิทยาศาสตร์นานาชาติ ทุก 3-5 ปี เริ่มตั้งแต่ปีพุทธศักราช 2530 เป็นต้นมา

ในปีพุทธศักราช 2567 องค์ประธานสถาบันวิจัยจุฬาภรณ์ มีพระดำริให้จัดการประชุมวิทยาศาสตร์นานาชาติ เจ้าฟ้าจุฬาภรณ์ ครั้งที่ 9 (The 9^th Princess Chulabhorn International Science Congress) ภายใต้หัวข้อ “ความท้าทายของสุขภาพหนึ่งเดียว : บทบาทของวิทยาศาสตร์ชีวภาพและเคมี” (The Challenges of One Health: The Roles of Biosciences and Chemistry) ระหว่างวันที่ 15-18 ธันวาคม 2567 ณ โรงแรมแชงกรี-ลา กรุงเทพฯ เพื่อถวายเป็นราชสักการะแด่ พระบาทสมเด็จพระเจ้าอยู่หัว เนื่องในโอกาสมหามงคลเฉลิมพระชนมพรรษา 72 พรรษา วันที่ 28 กรกฎาคม พุทธศักราช 2567 และเพื่อเป็นเวทีการประชุมระดับนานาชาติครั้งสำคัญ ที่จะเน้นถึงบทบาทของวิทยาศาสตร์ชีวภาพและเคมี กับการแก้ปัญหาความท้าทายของสุขภาพหนึ่งเดียว ตามแนวคิด “สุขภาพหนึ่งเดียว” (One Health) โดยองค์การอนามัยโลก (World Health Organization-WHO) ซึ่งเป็นแนวคิดและวิธีการแก้ไขปัญหาสุขภาพแนวทางใหม่ ที่ได้รวมแนวทางปฏิบัติทั้งด้านสุขภาพคน สุขภาพสัตว์ และสิ่งแวดล้อมเข้าไว้ด้วยกัน เพื่อให้มีสุขภาพที่ดีแบบองค์รวม และสามารถอยู่ร่วมกันได้อย่างปลอดภัย

งานประชุมฯ ครั้งนี้ มีวิทยากรที่มีชื่อเสียงในระดับนานาชาติตอบรับเข้าร่วมการประชุมมากกว่า 50 คน โดยมี Sir Gregory P. Winter นักวิทยาศาสตร์รางวัลโนเบล สาขาเคมี ปี 2561 จากสหราชอาณาจักร มาบรรยายพิเศษในหัวข้อ Making New Medicines by Harnessing the Power of Evolution (การพัฒนายาใหม่โดยอาศัยกระบวนการของการวิวัฒนาการ)
