“Songkran Festival 2019” Celebration at Chulabhorn Graduate Institute

On the 11th of April 2019 at 10.00 am, Chulabhorn Graduate Institute celebrated the “Songkran Festival 2019” held in the Auditorium, 2nd Floor, Chulabhorn Graduate Institute Building. Professor Dr. Somsak Ruchirawat, the rector of Chulabhorn Graduate Institute, presided on this occasion organised by the CGI’s student club together with the Office of Administration with the aim to preserve the New Year Thai tradition.

During the celebration, many dressed with short sleeves buttoned up shirts with colourful patterns of flower petals. The traditional Thai New Year’s Day in Thailand known as Songkran festival is celebrated on April 13th-15th every year. The activities held at the Auditorium include sprinkling water onto Buddha image, pay respect to the senior administration and faculty members by watering scented water on their hands in return for their kind blessings for the New Year. After the completion of the water blessing ceremony, Professor Dr. Somsak Ruchirawat, the rector, further gave blessings to all staff members and students for good luck, well-being and prosperity.

The Songkran Festival is a part of the Thai Cultural Project, whose mission is to preserve Thai culture and heritage and promote cultural appreciation.
